  • Chauncy and Mercy Selby moved to in Paris Township, Portage County, OhioO, in April 1815, along with William Hawley, Chauncy Selby Hawley, and Hawley. ||Also travelling with them were Mary's elder brother, William Selby, and his family. Both families initially settled on lot 33, however Chauncy moved his family to lot 27 shortly thereafter.1
  • At the first election for officers of Storrsboro held on 10 November 1820, Chauncy was elected as a Constable.1
  • Will: 6 September 1843, Paris Township, Portage County, OhioO.
    He left his entire estate to Mercy, his wife, including his farm of nearly 51 acres in the southwest corner of lot 27.2

  • Land Purchase: 18 February 1831, Paris Township, Portage County, OhioO, quit claim deed from the heirs of Brainard Selby to Mercy Hawley, wife of Chauncey Hawley.
    Mercy Hawley, wife of Chauncey Hawley, purchased a tract of land comprising just over 71 acres for $140 from the other heirs of her father, Brainard Selby, on 18 February 1831. The heirs were as follows: Ira Selby, and his wife, Allice; Freeman Smith, and his wife Dolly; Brainard Selby and his wife, Comfort; William Selby and his wife, Abigail; Bildad Hine and his wife, Mary; Newton Selby and his wife, Ann; and Thomas B. Selby.

    The property, situated in Paris Township, was further described as follows: in number three of the sixth range of townships in the Connecticut Western Reserve; being in Lot number 26 in said Paris bounded as follows, viz: Beginning at the North West corner of said lot no. 26, thence South, along the West line thereof 41 chains 16 links to a post, then East along the North line of Mary Hine's land 17 chains 33 links to a post, thence North by a marked line 41 chains 36 lins to a post in the North line of said lot 26, thence West along said North line to the place of beginning.

    Signed, sealed, and delivered in presence of Rufus Smith, Amelia M. Selby, John Hilbreth, Catharine Shank, and Hiram Giddings on 18 February 1831.

    Allice Selby, Comfort Selby, Mary Hine, Abigail Selby, and Ann Selby were all examined separately from their husbands on that date by Rufus Smith, Justice of the Peace.

    Dolly Smith was examined separately from her husband, Freeman Smith, on 5 November 1833 by Hiram Giddings, Justice of the Peace.

    The deed was received on 10 September 1835 and recorded on 19 September 1835, and then transcribed in these records on 31 May 1894.4

  • William and Abigail (Spouse of William Selby) moved to in Paris Township, Portage County, OhioO, in April 1815, along with Evalina Selby, Abigail Selby, and William Robbins Selby. ||They were also accompanied by William's sister, Mary Hawley, along with her husband, Chauncy, and their family. The two families initially settled together on lot 33, until shortly thereafter, when the Hawley family moved to lot 27.3
  • At the first election for officers of Storrsboro on 10 November 1820, William was appointed as one of two judges.3
  • The first post office in Paris Township was established in William's home in 1828. His brother, Thomas, was appointed as the township's first postmaster.3
