Biography
- Birth: about 1851, Quebec City, Quebec, CanadaO.
- Marriage: to John Grant, 26 November 1867, York County, Ontario, CanadaO, age ~16, by John Shaw, Minister of the Wesleyan Methodist Church.
The record states that John Grant and "Joseph Herwood" were married. It seems very unlikely that this was the bride's name - and there is other evidence to suggest this as well. I think we can safely assert that a minister of the Wesleyan Methodist Church would not have solemnized a same sex marriage in 1867. The question then becomes whether or not "Joseph" was truly the bride's name or if this was a transcription error. One of the witnesses to the marriage was J. Herwood of Aurora, and so I might wonder if this witness was Joseph Herwood.
Groom: John Grant, age 19, residing in North Gwillimbury, born in North Gwillimbury, father Charles Grant, mother Esther McWilliams
Bride: Joseph Herwood, age 16, residing in village of Aurora, born city of Quebec, father George Herwood, mother Julia Wire
Witnesses: Ed. Miller and J. Herwood, both of Aurora

When she was married she indicated that her parents were Geo. E. Vahlert was her biological father, but Delia Crane was her adoptive or stepmother. Support for that possibility is the absence of her enumeration in the 1900 census, despite her mother showing up in the household of her own father, Horace William Crane.1

- Family Event - death of daughter: 1923, death of Loretta Gambsky, age ~6.6
- Census: 7 April 1930, 512 Walker St., Milwaukee, Milwaukee County, WisconsinO, federal census of 1 April 1930, household of spouse, Frank L. Gambsky, "Frank J. Gansky" household, home rented for $30 per month, no radio in the home.
Adeline M. Gansky, female, white, age 32, married, first married at age 17, not attending school, able to read and write, born Indiana, parents born Indiana, able to speak English, housekeeper, private family, employed
The family lived in the house where the family of 43-year old Frank J. Hamam also lived. Hamam owned the house where they all lived valued at $10,000, was widowed and lived there with his 2 young children. Another young couple, Elmer S. and Pearl Glenn, along with four lodgers lived in another rented household in the house.
I would speculate that Adeline may have been a housekeeper for Hamam's family, as they were clearly much wealthier than the Gamsky family.7
