Mrs. Dewey G. Abbey Dies
Mrs. Louise S. Abbey, 67, widow of Dewey G. Abbey and a resident of Battle Creek before moving to Kalamazoo 47 years ago, died in Kalamazoo at 2:15 p. m. Monday. She had been ill since suffering a stroke last February 6. One of Mrs. Abbey's two surviving sons. Ronald H. Abbey, resides at 146 North Twenty-seventh street. He is head of the Enquirer and News photography department. Mrs. Abbey was born in Nimes, France, Jan. 10. 1884, a daughter of Francis and Elice Heyraud. Her family came to the United States when she was three years old, brought here by the Seventh-day Adventist church. Her father was chef at the old Battle Creek Sanitarium which burned in 1902. Mrs. Abbey attended Battle Creek schools, and in 1903 married Dewey G. Abbey here. Shortly after their marriage they moved to Kalamazoo, where Mr. Abbey was one of the organizers of the Preston Engraving Co. He died in Kalamazoo in August, 1947. In Kalamazoo, Mrs. Abbey was a member of L'Alliance Francaise club. the Ladies' Library association, and the Civic Art center. She was also active in Red Cross work and was a member of the First Presbyterian church. Surviving, in addition to Ronald Abbey, are another son, Gordon F. Abbey of Plainwell; two sisters, Mrs. George DeKam of Kalamazoo and Mrs. Laura Brown of Pontiac, and two granddaughters.7
