    Almost Another Big Fire

About three o'clock yesterday afternoon great excitement was caused by an alarm of fire, which was reported to be at the distillery. The engine made the run out there in splendid style, but its services were not needed, three of Harden's hand grenades having extinguished the flames, which proceeded from an immense wooden tub filled with whisky which had ignited from a lantern, the gas arising from the whisky taking fire and thus igniting the fluid. Thomas Cunningham, who was holding the lantern over the hatchway out in the cover over the tub, was burned slightly on the neck and arms, but had presence of mind enough to get the hand grenades which he used with good effect. The lantern had been brought to enable Cunningham to find the end of the plunger used in stirring up the whisky preparatory to taking a proof of its strength, which had come off the handle and was floating in the tub. No damage was done.4
