Nigle L. Standley, age 76, of Logan County Ohio, passed away late Tuesday evening, March 18, 2014, surrounded by his family, after a brief battle with cancer.

He was born in Mechanicsburg, Ohio October 31, 1937, the son of the late Leo Standley and Bernice Armentrout Standley. He was preceded in death by six siblings, Elmo Standley, Blair Standley, Bill Standley, Cleve Standley, Leonard Standley, and Ruby (Standley) Brown. He was also preceded in death by his first granddaughter, Kristen (Siler) Vennekotter.

He is survived by his wife of fifty seven years, Phyllis A. Guy Standley, and their six children, along with their spouses, and twenty-one grandchildren: William and Joni (Standley) Siler of Bellefontaine, Ohio (Jordan, Jacob, and Hunter); Jeffrey and Jane (Maier) Standley of Powell, Ohio (Morgan, Joel, Madison, and Griffen); John and Pamela (Standley) Taylor of Cranberry Township, Pennsylvania (Alex and Clayton); Gregory and Jennifer (Yoder) Standley of New Albany, Ohio (Abigail, Sydney, Jonah, and Spencer); John and Dawna (Murdoch) Standley of Plain City, Ohio (Andrew, Adam, Seth, Emma, and Hannah); and Brandon and Bess (Reddick) Standley of Bellefontaine (Evan, Owen, and Reagan). Nigle was a 1956 graduate of Mechanicsburg High School where he was President of his class and played on the football team. Upon graduation he enlisted in the United States Air Force. He served in Okinawa and later in Lincoln, Nebraska. He was honorably discharged in 1960 and he and his wife returned to Ohio to raise their family.

Nigle was known by many for his voice and his love of the sport of football. As a teenager he sang at the church where his father was the minister. He sang at churches for the rest of his life as a soloist, in duets with his wife, and as congregational song leader. Soon after high school he began calling square dances with various bands. His voice became best known in his work as a Professional Auctioneer.

Nigle's career as an auctioneer spanned several decades, as he performed auctions for county fairs, estate sales, farm sales, business sales, and charity auctions in numerous counties in Ohio. He enjoyed selling antiques and collectibles but he also enjoyed the friendships he made over the years socializing with the buyers at his auctions. In his spare time he loved watching high school and college football, especially when he could attend in person. He travelled near and far to watch his children and grandchildren play many different sports.

Nigle was an active member of the Grace Chapel Christian Union Church in Santa Fe, Ohio. He loved Jesus Christ.
