John Miller
M
Biography
John Miller and Lucyette Parmeter
Marriage: before 1873.1
- Court: 28 January 1873, Kalamazoo, Kalamazoo County, MichiganO, guardianship case.
Lucyette and John Miller were established as the legal guardians of Mary Alice Crane's estate. Given the similarity of names, I have surmised that Lucyette Miller was Mary Alice's mother, Lucyette Parmeter, although it is not certain from the record itself. The estate that would have required adult guardianship may have been the estate of Sarah (Benson) Parmeter, Lucyette's mother, with whom Mary Alice had been living, and who may have died sometime before this date. No marriage record between John Miller and Lucyette has been discovered to corroborate this theory.1

- Court: between 13 September 1860 and 14 September 1860, Kalamazoo, Kalamazoo County, MichiganO, "Joseph D. Crane v. Lucyette Crane." There were four witnesses deposed in their divorce suit: Elizabeth Armstrong, Maria Crane (sister-in-law of Joseph), Dennis Stockwell (uncle by marriage to Lucyette Crane), and Horace Parmeter (father of Lucyette Crane). All of them essentially testified in support of Joseph, although her father only testified to the fact that the couple had been married.10
- Divorce granted: from Joseph Delevan Crane, 18 September 1860, Kalamazoo, Kalamazoo County, MichiganO, age 24.
Lucyette did not respond to the summons for the lawsuit. The exclusive custody of their children was granted to their father.11

John Miller and Lucyette Parmeter
Marriage: before 1873.13
- Court: 28 January 1873, Kalamazoo, Kalamazoo County, MichiganO, guardianship case.
Lucyette and John Miller were established as the legal guardians of Mary Alice Crane's estate. Given the similarity of names, I have surmised that Lucyette Miller was Mary Alice's mother, Lucyette Parmeter, although it is not certain from the record itself. - Marriage: to Joseph Delevan Crane, 4 December 1905, Battle Creek, Calhoun County, MichiganO, age 69, "Joseph D. Crane and Lucy E. Parmeter Erard," by Rev. George B. Kulp, Minister.
Their remarriage occurred more than 52 years after their initial marriage, and more than 45 years after their divorce.
Benjamin and Mabel Nielson, both of Battle Creek, acted as witnesses. According to the marriage record, Joseph resided in South Bend at the time of their marriage, while Lucyette resided in Battle Creek. Despite their advanced ages, both were still working, he as a laborer, and she as a housekeeper. The record notes, almost certainly incorrectly, that both bride and groom had been married twice before.14

According to her death record, the cause of her death was "blood poison". Her nephew, Robert Grant, reported that he was told as a child that his father had a sister who died from a "burst appendix." This may indicate that she died of peritonitis secondary to acute appendicitis, which might have been deemed at the time as sepsis or "blood poison."1
