    He worked as a day laborer at the A. M. Todd Co. in Pearl. He listed his nearest relative as his mother, Mary Martha Grant. His birthdate was given as 26 April 1884 and it said he was 33 years old, although 34 would have been more accurate.
    He signed his name with his mark. He was described as white, short (specifically 5'4" tall), of medium build, and with brown eyes. The color his hair was not documented.2

    Allegan - William M. Grant, 52, a resettlement worker, died here Friday of injuries suffered when his automobile went out of control and overturned in a ditch along M-89 six miles west of Allegan. His skull and jaw were fractured.
    Mr. Grant leaves a brother, Jasper, Bravo. Services will be held Monday at 2 in Benson's funeral residence here.7

    Mrs. Nora Stedman, 78, of route 3, Fennville, died Friday morning in Allegan Health Center after a lingering illness. Her husband, Charles, died in 1955. She was a member of Pearl Methodist Church and the Ladies Aid.

    Surviving are two sons, Oakey of Grand Rapids and Everett C. of Sturgis; one daughter, Mrs. Fred Beagle; 17 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Bessie Blaney of Douglas.

    Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. from the Chappell Funeral Home in Fennville. The Rev. Eugene Lewis will officiate. Burial will be in Pearl cemetery.8

    It is not known how their marriage ended, whether by her death or through divorce, as we have found no record of either between the date of their marriage in 1873 and when Peter is found seven years later in the 1880 census living with his soon-to-be third wife, Martha.1
