Mrs. Charlotte B. Kalee, aged 80 of Middleville passed away Wednesday, September 30, 1998. She was preceded in death by her brother, Bonnie Reynolds, and her sisters, Dorothy Slotman and Dorcas Stull. Surviving are her husband of 58 years, Orie J. Kalee; her children, Orie Jr. and Sandra Kalee of Clarkston, MI, Bruce and Becky Kalee, Corinne and Murtin Wustman, Neil and Sharon Kalee all of Middleville, Cindy and John Boezwinkle of Rockford; eight grandchildren; four great grandchildren, her brother, Dwaine and Vivian Reynolds; her brother-in-law, Milo Slotman; her sisters-in-law, Alice and Joe Czerney, Jane Kalee; several nieces and nephews. The Funeral Service will be held 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, Chaplain Carol Fliestra officiating. Interment Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be given to Oak Crest Manor. The family will receive friends Thursday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Stroo Funeral Home, 1095 68th St. S.E.13

The evening was spent in music and games, after which a dainty luncheon was served. A recitation, "Years That Roll By," was given by Mrs. Klinger, as a toast to her husband. A solo, "Loves Old Sweet Song," was sung by Mrs. Roy Hoare, a niece of the host, and solos were rendered by Eva Stevens and Calvin Klinger.
The guests at the party included Mr. and Mrs. Albert Klinger, Mr. and Mrs. Calvin Klinger, Mr. and Mrs. George Klinger, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Klinger, Mrs. Eva Klinger Stevens, Mrs. May Klinger Grant, Charles Klinger, Jr., Theodore Klinger, John Klinger, the MIsses Gladys, Susan and May Klinger, Frank Rivers, Mrs. William Grant, Mrs. Nellie Grant. Out of town guests were Mr. and Mrs. Roy Hoare, of Elmo, Mich.; Mr. and Mrs. John Woldendorff, and the Misses Elleta, Razza, and Helen Woldendorff, of Portage Center.15

A VARIETY SHOWER
Mrs. Joseph Cunningham, formerly Miss Blanche Heyraud, was given a variety shower Thursday at her home in Emmett township. About fifty friends of Mr. and Mrs. Cunningham gathered at the home for the evening and a most delightful time was spent with a program of music, games, and readings. Refreshments were served by several of the ladies. The guest of honor was well remembered with gifts. Mrs. Clarence A. Palmiter and Mrs. John Palmerton were in charge of the entertainment.8

Gunshot Kills Nurse, 66
Mrs. Blanche De Kam, 66, wife of George S. De Kam, 3464 Chime St., Oshtemo, was found dead in a second story room of her home as the result of a gunshot wound, at 4:05 yesterday afternoon.
Deputies Ronald Keim, Donald Lewis, William Robinson, James Von Her and Undersheriff Glenn K. Hammel investigated the death and said Mrs. De Kam was killed by the discharge of a 16-gauge shotgun which was found at the side of the body. The death was discovered by Mr. De Kam upon his return home from work.
Mrs. De Kam had been a nurse at Kalamazoo State Hospital for 27 years.
Under Doctor’s Care
The husband, a plumber, told officers that his wife had been in an extremely nervous condition and had been under the care of two doctors.
Dr. Leo Rasmussen, Vicksburg, county coroner, was summoned and authorized that the body be removed to the Truesdale Funeral Home.
Mrs. De Kam’s survivors in addition to her husband include two daughters, Mrs. Mary Blair, Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich., and Mrs. Alice Barlevi, Chicago, Ill.; a son, Joseph Cunningham, San Diego, Calif.; three stepsons, Ronald, George Jr. and Burton De Kam, all of Kalamazoo; a sister, Mrs. Laura Brown, Pontiac, Mich.; 18 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at Truesdale’s at 1 Saturday afternoon, with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery, Battle Creek.30

NEWS NOTES
Former Resident Dies - Mrs. Blanch Anna DeKam, the former Blanch Heyraud of Battle Creek, died March 28 in Oshtemo, near Kalamazoo. Services were held in Kalamazoo last Saturday, with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery here. A native of Battle Creek, she was born Nov. 14, 1890, the daughter of Francois and Elise (Desmarty) Heyraud. Her father was a long-time French chef at the Battle Creek Sanitarium. Mrs. DeKam was educated in the local public schools. For the past 27 years she was a registered nurse employed by the Kalamazoo State Hospital. She is survived by two daughter, Mrs. Mary Blair of Grosse Pointe Woods and Mrs. Alice Barlevi of Chicago; a son, Joseph Cunningham of San Diego, Calif., and a sister, Mrs. Laura Brown of Pontiac.31
