Will Grant Gone
Disappeared Monday and No Trace Left
From Wednesday's Daily News
William H. Grant, who resided 1011 South Main street, has disappeared. Nothing has been heard or seen of him since Monday morning when he left home. He has been known to stay away from home all night without leaving any word, but this is the first time he has stayed away any great length of time and Mrs. Grant and family are greatly alarmed. Tuesday they did not feel alarmed at his absence, thinking that he had probably beencalled out of town on business.
When he did not come this morning inquiries were sent out, but at this time nothing has been learned of his whereabouts, and his friends fear he has met with an accident or foul play. He stated to his family several days ago, that he might go to Ohio on business but is is highly improbable that he has gone there because matters would have been explained before his departure.
Mr. Grant is a son of Mr. and Mrs. James Grant and has resided here nearly all his life. He is an industrious young man of temperate habits, and no cause can be attributed to his sudden disappearance. He has a wife and three children.
From Thursday's Daily News
William Grant, whose mysterious absence since Monday was reported in yesterday's News, turned up this morning, and his family feels relieved, in knowing where he is. He had accompanied Chas. Fiedeke and Amie Fausch to Wawasee on a fishing expedition. Mrs. Grant is in poor health and her concern over Mr. Grant's absence had a bad effect upon her.7

Wm. H. Grant Killed on Lake Erie R.R.
Body, Badly Mangled, Found near Laporte
Long Delay Encountered in Fixing Idenification
Complete Mystery Surrounds the Details of Killing - Was Probably Riding Freight
Laporte, Feb. 27 (Special)
Charles M. Grant of Goshen this afternoon positively identified the remains of the Lake Erie railroad victim as the body of his father, William H. Grant, of Goshen. Mr. Grant had been missing for two months and was last heard from at Taber, South Dakota.
Mangled beyond recognition and parts strewn for some distance along the track, the body of William H. Grant of Goshen, was found yesterday morning on Bald Hill crossing of the Lake Erie railroad tracks near Laporte, by Jerome Gilchrist who was on his way to that city. The body was stretched across the track on the crossing. Parts of it were missing, supposedly having been cut off by the train which killed the man. Grant had a pair of glasses in his pocket which were not broken. It is not known what train hit the victim, because it is not known ho long he was there.
Every indication is that Grant was killed on the crossing. This is indicated by the fact that parts of the body were all on the side of the crossing near Laporte and there was no evidence to sho that he had been struck on the right of way and thrown onto the crossing. It may be that he was asleep or unconscious on the track when he was killed and it is possible that he was run over rather than struck by the train.
Coroner Walkinshaw was called and the remains taken to Decker Bros. morgue in Laporte.
Much time elapsed before identification of the body was made certain.
In a memorandum book in Grant's pocket were several names, including W. H. Grant and Mrs. Ella Grant, of Goshen, Ind. The book was issued by the Sunset Distilling Co. On a card in the book was the name of the Knickerbocker Ice Co., Yorkville. Mr. Grant had been employed by the company.
Erie railroad employees believe that Grant fell from a south bound freight train, but it is difficult to explain why one of the victim fell half a block west of where the trunk rested between the rails.
Grant is well known in Goshen and left here about ten years ago. His family still lives here. He was formerly engaged in the cement buisness. Surviving him are his wife and five children, Charles, James, Lawrence, and Louise Grant, and Mrs. Roy Rensberger, all of Goshen.
The deceased was 46 years of age. Relatives here were notified yesterday afternoon of the accident and this morning his son, Charles Grant, accompanied by C. B. Stiver, went to Laporte to take charge of the remains. The body arrived here this afternoon at 1:42 o'clock.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. tomorrow at the Christian church. Burial in Oak Ridge cemetery.15
